Whether you like camping deep in the mountains, religiously cycling through traffic and trails, or you’re an urbanite just trying to keep your laptop dry during monsoon season, Thai brand Tropical Rainforest Gear has got you covered—literally. They sell backpacks, bike bags, and shoulder bags in addition to other essential gear to make your mission a success, whatever it may be.

Thanun Kitwang, otherwise known as Kimmy Hiker Man, was inspired to launch the brand after a hiking trip in the mountains 1,767 meters above sea level. “My first hiking experience was not easy and was very exhausting,” he laughs. “But being close to nature has taught me the importance of preserving nature forever.” He hopes Tropical Rainforest will encourage more people to nuture that connection by making it as pleasurable as possible.

Kitwang is the main man behind the brand, hand-making each bag in his small home studio using materials that are lightweight, durable, and fully waterproof. “Producing products by yourself makes it easy to set specific production standards and create unique designs,” he explains. 90 percent of his customers are Thai as well, signaling the popularity of camping culture in Thailand.

In addition to selling bags, Tropical Rainforest also carries related products produced by other companies. This includes rope made specifically for hanging tarps in tent-fashion, straps designed to loop around trees for hanging hammocks called “tree-huggers”, sports caps for water bottles, and more.

Kitwang’s approach to design comes from a background working in architecture, but his desire to travel has always drawn him beyond the built environment, ultimately leading to Tropical Rainforest. Although that first major hiking trip was a life-changing experience, his bond with nature began with his father, who would take him camping as a child. And he encourages others to discover that bond. “Nature is where life begins,” he says.
